Glasgow Jewish community grant-making board, 1996 onwards

Glasgow Jewish Continuity was a Glasgow Jewish community board set up in June 1996 that made grants to Jewish community organisations. It was funded by the Joint Israel Appeal and the Glasgow Jewish Community Trust, and its executive officer was David Kaplan.[1] From 2000 the Jewish Year Book listed it as part of the United Jewish Israel Appeal in Glasgow, as "UJIA (incorporating Glasgow Jewish Continuity)", at the Jewish Community Centre, 222 Fenwick Road, Giffnock, Glasgow, G46 6UE.[2]

History

The 1997 Jewish Year Book listed Glasgow Jewish Continuity and Renewal at 43 Queen Square, Glasgow G41, with Dr D. Shapiro as chair and D. Kaplan as executive officer.[3]

In May 1997 the Jewish Chronicle reported that the board had awarded almost £12,000 to 14 organisations. The recipients named included the Glasgow Jewish Resource Centre, the Argyll and Bute Jewish Community, the Glasgow Jewish Students' Society and the Northern Chaplaincy Board, the cheder of Newton Mearns Synagogue, the Glasgow Jewish Learning Centre and Glasgow New Synagogue.[1]

Alex Goldberg worked for "the Glasgow Jewish Continuity Group, which was funded by UJIA" in the mid-1990s, according to a Jewish Telegraph profile.[4]

The Jewish Year Book continued to list "UJIA (incorporating Glasgow Jewish Continuity)" at 222 Fenwick Road in 2004, 2011 and 2015.[2]
