Ed Burke
Ed Burke is a Middle East researcher at the Spanish think-tank FRIDE.[1]
Prior to joining FRIDE, Burke had worked at the Club of Madrid, and had undertaken research on behalf of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs. He holds a Masters degree in War Studies from King´s College London.[2]
On Aegis
In April 2009, Burke praised Aegis Defence Services for its role alongside the Italian Government in the Iraqi province of Dhi Qar:
- Despite its reputation in some quarters as latter-day mercenaries, Aegis has helped design what has been cited as a model for the civilian role within counterinsurgency strategy by US Centcom Commander, General David Petraeus. One of the most efficient civilian reconstruction efforts in Iraq is partly British and will remain so for the foreseeable future. It is not in Basra.[3]
