Bernard Bulkin
Professor Bernard Bulkin (aka Bernie) is a former British Petroleum (BP) chief scientist[1] who is currently Chairman of the Office of Renewable Energy Deployment at Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
Biography
2012
- Bernie is Chair of the UK Office of Renewable Energy Deployment and has had several other UK Government roles on sustainable energy and transport, including six years as Commissioner for Energy and Transport at the UK Sustainable Development Commission.
- He is also a Professorial Fellow of Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge, and serves on numerous charitable boards, including Council of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of Chicago School of Physical Sciences Advisory Board, and Editorial Advisory Board of Energy and Environmental Science. Bernie Bulkin’s radio broadcasts, 'Environment on the Edge', have been heard on VoiceAmerica and his blogs regularly appear on the Green Pages of Huffington Post. He is the author of more than 100 papers and two books. Dr Bulkin was formerly Chief Scientist of BP and is a board member of Severn Trent plc, Ze-gen Corp. Ludgate Investments Limited, and Pursuit Dynamics plc. He sits on the FTSE Environmental Markets Advisory Committee. From 2005-2009 he was Non-executive Chair of AEA Technology plc. He is chair the CleanTech Advisory Council of Vantage Point Venture Partners. [2]

- Bernie is a member of the DTI Sustainable Energy Policy Advisory Board, the Board of Governors of Argonne National Lab in the US, Chairman of AEA Technology plc, a non-executive director of Severn Trent plc and Accelergy Corporation, a professorial fellow of New Hall, Cambridge, and serves on numerous charitable boards. Born in a New Jersey farmhouse and educated on the streets of New York, as well as at several fine universities, Bernie was formerly Chief Scientist of BP. [3]
In 2006 he was chair for energy and transport at the Sustainable Development Commission, chairman of AEA Technology, and a partner in Vantage Point Venture Partners.
