Aberdeen Synagogue and Jewish Community Centre (ASJCC) is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, number SC046585, on the Scottish Charity Register from 24 May 2016. The register gives its address as 74 Dee Street, Aberdeen AB11 6DS, and says it "is set up to provide religious services, eduction [sic] and support to the local Jewish community, and carries out outreach to local schools and organisations". Its purposes are to advance the Jewish religion, in particular by making arrangements for Jewish worship and religious ceremonies "within North East Scotland" and by maintaining a place for Jewish worship there.[1] Companies House lists it as a Scottish charitable incorporated organisation with number CS002433.[2]

The SCIO was formed so that the older trust, the Aberdeen Hebrew Congregation (SC002901), could transfer its assets to it and be wound up.[3]

Activities

According to its 2024 annual report, ASJCC holds a monthly Shabbat morning service and evening Shabbat events, festival events, a children's Purim event "with support from Matanah Club", Hebrew classes and an online book club, and hosts visits from local schools and Doors Open Day. The report says the synagogue at 74 Dee Street "is categorised as a 'B' listed building in a conservation area".[4]

The 2025 annual report thanks Jewish Council of Scotland, Matanah, "Rabbi Rubin from Glasgow, Rabbi Rose from Edinburgh, and the Board of Deputies and Community Security Trust in London" for support. It says that "many of our members are worried by rising anti-semitism, especially after the Manchester attacks", that the charity "set up an anti-semitism action group", organised self-defence classes for members and held a memorial for the Bibas family, and that it supported the Aberdeen Muslim community after their mosque was vandalised.[5]
