- Four successive US presidents have picked Richard Clarke to defend the country against terrorists.[1]
Working for the Government for 30 year Mr Clarke has been involved with the 9/11 commission, the cruise missle bombing of a medical facility in the Sudan and a controversy over weapons supplied to ISrael being sold on to China. He also also been heavily critical of President Bush accusing him of doing
- a "terrible job" fighting terrorism - of ignoring the al-Qaeda threat before 11 September 2001 and distorting it afterwards.[2]
