Chabad of UK Community Centre Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales (number 09244977). It was incorporated on 2 October 2014 as Chabad of UK, a month after police raided Oldhill Street, Stamford Hill, in the Chabad UK money-laundering investigation, and took its present name on 9 September 2016.[1][2] It is one of three companies set up in the same eight days with the same directors. The others are Beis Menachem - Beis Moshiach UK (09243190) and a company named Havenpoint Limited (09234722).[3]

It is not to be confused with Chabad of UK Limited (06231876), the former name of the company of the charity Or Simcha, or with Chabad UK (charity 1118547, company 06058021). It is not part of Chabad Lubavitch UK (charity 227638) or the worldwide Chabad-Lubavitch movement.[4]

Company

Companies House lists the company as an active private company limited by guarantee without share capital. Its nature of business is given as other education, social work for the elderly and disabled, other social work, and library activities.[1] It was formed with Nissim Bellalou as subscriber and first director, at a service address at Penhurst House, Battersea Park Road, London SW11. Bellalou's appointment was terminated on the day of incorporation.[9][10]

Every set of accounts it has filed, from the period to 31 October 2015 to the year to 30 September 2025, has been for a dormant company. In 2017 it shortened its accounting year to end on 30 September.[3] No person with significant control is registered. Several of these officers held parallel posts in the Chabad UK group. Kaytel, Shenberger and an Isaac Taieb (recorded with a birth year of 1957) were directors of Chabad UK (06058021) and of the Or Simcha company from 31 August 2016.[8][7] Bindiger was appointed a director of the Or Simcha company on 2 January 2024, the same day Anatian joined this company.[7] A Nissim Bellalou with the same birth month and year was briefly a director of Havenpoint Limited (09234722) on 25 September 2014. Companies House records a Nissim Bellalou with no birth date as company secretary of Pikuach Nefesh Limited and Worldwide Hatzala Ltd in 2006–07; whether this is the same person is not established.[12]

Registered charity of the same name

A charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) called Chabad of UK Community Centre (charity 1202560) was registered on 30 March 2023, with its contact address given as "Chabad of UK, 53 Oldhill Street". A CIO is a separate legal entity with no company number, and the register does not link it to company 09244977. Its trustees are Rabbi Eliezer Bindiger (chair, appointed 10 September 2020) and Isaac Taieb (appointed 2 October 2014). These are the dates on which Bindiger and Taieb became directors of 09244977, and both predate the charity's registration.[13]

The register gives the CIO's previous name as "Universal Relief Alliance Charity". "Universal Relief Alliance" was a working name of Or Simcha (charity 1119522), one of the eight charities in the Charity Commission's class inquiry.[13][14] A company called Universal Relief Alliance (08508154) was incorporated in April 2013. Its first director was recorded as Chaim Cohen, born March 1952, at 26 Paget Road, London N16, and he remained a director until 1 May 2023. Bindiger became a director on 1 January 2023, and the company was struck off on 4 March 2025.[15]

The CIO's stated activity is "Soliciting donations for the advancement of religion in accordance with the Orthodox Jewish Faith and the relief of poverty", and it lists England and Wales and Israel as areas of operation. It reported nil income and expenditure for the years ending 29 February 2024 and 28 February 2025. Its trustees' reports, signed by Bindiger, say the charity "has been inactive".[13][16]

Relation to Chabad-Lubavitch

The company's name uses the word "Chabad", but no institutional link to Chabad Lubavitch UK was found. No officer of this company appears among the officers of Lubavitch (UK) Limited, the corporate trustee of Chabad Lubavitch UK.[17] The centre at Oldhill Street did not appear in the London directories of Chabad Lubavitch UK or of the Lubavitch World Headquarters checked on 6 November 2026.[18][19] In 2014 Chabad-Lubavitch described Chabad UK, which was run from the same street, as "an entirely separate organisation from us with important theological differences".[2]
