Beis Menachem - Beis Moshiach UK is a company registered in England and Wales (number 09243190) that carries the name of a messianist Jewish community centre in Stamford Hill, north London. The centre was run from Oldhill Street by Rabbi Chaim Yitzchok Cohen, the man Jewish News described in 2014 as "director of the Beis Moshiach/Beis Menachem Community Centre" and as the person running Chabad UK from the same street.[1] The company was incorporated on 1 October 2014, a month after police raided Oldhill Street in the Chabad UK money-laundering investigation.[2][1]

The centre is not part of Chabad Lubavitch UK (charity 227638). After the 2014 raid a Chabad-Lubavitch spokesperson told Jewish News that Chabad UK was "an entirely separate organisation from us with important theological differences".[1] It is not the same body as the Manchester charity Beis Menachem Chabad Lubavitch (charity 1046309), which is based on Park Lane, Salford.[3]

Names

The Beis Menachem name had been used at Oldhill Street before 2014. The Charity Commission register records three working names for Havenpoint Limited (charity 291213), the charity whose assets were transferred to Chabad UK in January 2013: "Beis Menachem Institute for Higher Rabbinical Studies", "Chabad Community Centre" and "Congregation Beis Menachem".[4][5] A 2010 fundraising page set up in Chaim Yitzchok Cohen's name raised money for "Havenpoint - Chabad UK" and said that Havenpoint ran "two Chabad Community Centres in London".[6]

Company

Companies House records the company as a private company limited by guarantee without share capital. It was incorporated on 1 October 2014 and is listed as active, with nature of business "other education" and "other social work activities without accommodation".[2] The incorporation documents name Chaim Yitzchok Cohen as the sole subscriber and first director and secretary, giving his occupation as minister of religion and a service address at Penhurst House, Battersea Park Road, London SW11. The articles filed with them are written for a charitable company, but the objects clause was left as an unfilled placeholder.[7]

Every set of accounts it has filed, from 2015 to the year to 31 October 2025, has been for a dormant company. Companies House started compulsory strike-off action against it six times between 2018 and 2026 (first Gazette notices in October 2018, October 2019, January 2021, December 2024, December 2025 and June 2026), and each time the action was discontinued or suspended.[8] It is not registered with the Charity Commission. No London charity is registered under the Beis Menachem or Beis Moshiach name; on the register the Beis Menachem name appears only among the working names of the removed charity Havenpoint Limited (see below).[9]

Chaim Yitzchok Cohen

The Companies House officer records for Chaim Yitzchok Cohen give a birth month of March 1952. That is the same month and year Companies House records for Edward Harold Cohen, a former director of Havenpoint Limited, whom the Charity Commission described as the manager of Chabad UK and the seven linked charities.[12][13][5] Under that name Cohen had also been a director of Ex-Trans-Im Limited (08712157), which was incorporated on 1 October 2013 as Habad UK Ltd with its registered office at 53 Oldhill Street, and of Maximillion Enterprises Ltd (08844935), registered at 53–55 Oldhill Street, from January to May 2014.[14][15] He remained secretary of Beis Menachem - Beis Moshiach UK until 10 September 2025.[10] Edward Cohen was convicted in his absence in June 2019 and sentenced to nine years and nine months.[5]

Sister companies

Three companies were incorporated within eight days, between 25 September and 2 October 2014, each with the same initial registered office at Penhurst House, Battersea Park Road. Each moved its registered office to 208 Brooke Road, Clapton, on 22 October 2014. Benjamin Kaytel, Yehoshua Shenberger and Isaac Dani Hay Taieb were directors of all three from 2014; Kaytel and Shenberger resigned in January 2017:[8][16][17]

  • Havenpoint Limited (09234722), incorporated 25 September 2014. It is a separate company from the earlier charity Havenpoint Limited (charity 291213, company 01730971).
  • Beis Menachem - Beis Moshiach UK (09243190), incorporated 1 October 2014.
  • Chabad of UK Community Centre Ltd (09244977), incorporated 2 October 2014 as Chabad of UK.

All three have filed dormant-company accounts. Eliezer Bindiger was appointed a director of all three: Chabad of UK Community Centre Ltd on 10 September 2020, Beis Menachem - Beis Moshiach UK on 2 December 2022 and Havenpoint Limited (09234722) on 18 October 2025.[10][18][19]

Self-description and relation to Chabad-Lubavitch

Directory listings submitted for the Oldhill Street centre describe it as founded in 1994 by Chaim Yitzchok Cohen and "other dedicated followers of the Lubavitcher Rebbe". They encourage readers "to live with Moshiach" in the understanding that "The Redemption Has Already Come".[20] This messianist self-description is a matter of belief and community identity, not institutional membership.

No listing for the Oldhill Street centre, the Beis Menachem or Beis Moshiach names, or Chabad UK was found in the London directories of Chabad Lubavitch UK or of the Lubavitch World Headquarters, both checked on 6 November 2026.[21][22] The Charity Commission said in 2020 that Chabad UK was separate from Chabad Lubavitch UK and that its inquiry was not connected to "any other Chabad organisations".[23] Companies House records show no director of Beis Menachem - Beis Moshiach UK or its sister companies serving on Lubavitch (UK) Limited, the corporate trustee of Chabad Lubavitch UK.[24]
