VSO (Vso, Companies House number 00703509) is a contractor to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) under the Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF). Companies House records it as incorporated on 18 September 1961, status "Active", nature of business "85590 - Other education not elsewhere classified".[1][2] It is a named supplier on Lot 1 of the CSSF Framework Agreement 2023–27.[3] FCO and FCDO payments to it over £25,000 recorded in published departmental spending data total about £44,640,263; these figures cover all FCO/FCDO (and, after September 2020, former Department for International Development) programmes and are not limited to the CSSF.[4]

Overview

The Guardian reported in March 2021 that VSO, founded in 1958, received half of its funding directly from the FCDO. It said VSO was preparing to leave 14 countries and make 200 staff redundant because of aid cuts, as its Volunteering for Development grant was about to end.[5] FCDO grant data then recorded a £9,000,000 "one year extension of the Volunteering for Development (V4D) programme" from 1 April 2021.[6]
