Almat Limited is a charitable company (01495320) incorporated and registered on 6 May 1980; its principal and registered office is in London N16.[1][2][3] Its objects are "the advancement of religion in accordance with the Orthodox Jewish faith, the relief of poverty and for such other charitable purposes".[4] The 2025 accounts list Mrs C Benedikt (resigned 4 July 2024), Mrs C Soloveitchik and Mrs R Friedman as trustees; the register lists Chaya Soloveitchik and Rachel Frenkel (from 1 December 2024) (PDF p.3).[3][4] It makes grants "exclusively to UK registered charities", and the majority of its income comes from investment properties (PDF p.4).[3] In the year to 31 March 2025 investment income was £50,080 (2024: £57,349) and charitable spending £43,408; its only grantee was Friends of Mosdos Torah Veyirah, which received £42,208 (2024: £47,591) (PDF p.6, 13).[3] Its investments of £644,360 are "mostly holdings in property syndicates entrusted and managed by the Urban & Rural Group" of Manchester M7, in joint ventures including Queensfer Co. Ltd, Main Street Estate, Alkrington Estate, Highland Estate and Kirkway Estates (PDF p.7, 14).[3] The accounts were approved on 23 December 2025 by Mrs C Soloveitchik and examined by D Pollak of Salford M6.[3]

Objects and activities

The charity's registered objects read: "THE ADVANCEMENT OF RELIGION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ORTHODOX JEWISH FAITH, THE RELIEF OF POVERTY AND FOR SUCH OTHER CHARITABLE PURPOSES."[4]

The register describes its activities as: "Education"[4]

Register classifications: General Charitable Purposes, Religious Activities.[4]

Areas of operation recorded on the register: Throughout England And Wales, Israel.[4]

Funding in Israel

  • No spending in Israel is identified; the only grant, £42,208, went to Friends of Mosdos Torah Veyirah, and the accounts say grants are made "exclusively to UK registered charities" (PDF p.4, 13).[3]

Israeli partners

No Israeli partner is named. The register lists Israel among the charity's areas of operation.[4]

Activity beyond the Green Line and support for the IDF

Findings are graded by confidence. "Partner" findings concern the Israeli recipient organisation, not proven use of UK funds.

Evidence of activity beyond the 1949 armistice line

Support for the IDF: No IDF or military funding is stated.[3]

Controversies and regulatory action

  • No Charity Commission inquiry, Official Warning or Gazette insolvency notice naming this charity was found, and its register entry shows no regulatory alert;[12] it is not among the charities named in the Commission's cheque-cashing class-inquiry announcements (May, September and December 2025) or in the September 2026 statement of results.[13][14][15][16] The charities in the Commission's settlements class inquiry (opened August 2026) have not been named, so it is not known whether this charity is among them.[17]
  • Three different trustee lists. The accounts name C Benedikt, C Soloveitchik and R Friedman and say "Both trustees are also directors"; the register names Chaya Soloveitchik and Rachel Frenkel; and Companies House shows Reitzy Friedman and Haya Soloveitchik resigning on 1 January 2026, leaving a director named David Pollak (from 1 January 2026) as the only active officer (PDF p.3).[3][4][2]
  • Capital loss not shown. The report says "Regrettably the charity made a capital loss on the sale of a property investment as shown in the ensuing accounts", but the statement of financial activities shows no loss for 2025 and a gain of £141,094 for 2024 (PDF p.4, 6).[3]
  • Notes disagree. Note 7 gives 2024 charitable activity of £51,361 and note 8 £51,435 (PDF p.12).[3]
  • Loans from directors. Creditors due after one year are "Director loan accounts" of £59,186 (2024: £65,500) (note 17).[3]
