Friends of Yad Sarah (Charity Commission number 294801; often styled Friends of Yad Sarah UK) is an unincorporated English charitable trust. Its registered activity is to raise funds for Yad Sarah, the Israeli volunteer organisation that lends medical and rehabilitative equipment and runs homecare services.[1]
The UK trust does not itself run clinics. Money raised in Britain is granted to Yad Sarah in Israel. Yad Sarah’s own branch map has included equipment-lending points inside Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem as well as inside the Green Line.[2]
It is distinct from the New York corporation Friends of Yad Sarah, Inc. (EIN 13-3106175), which raises funds in the United States and represents Yad Sarah at the UN.[3]
History and objects
The governing document is a trust deed dated 6 November 1985. The charity was entered on the Register of Charities on 16 July 1986.[4][5]
Registered objects: the furtherance of the charitable purposes of the organisation known as Yad Sarah, and subject thereto such other charitable purposes as the trustees determine.[4] The Commission activity line is: “To raise funds for Yad Sarah, a charitable organisation in Israel, which lends medical and rehabilitative equipment free of charge as well as providing a variety of homecare support services.” Area of operation on the register: Israel.[1]
The 2020 trustees’ report described the same purpose and recorded donations of £731,937 that year and grants to Yad Sarah in Israel of £554,000 (2019: donations £366,803; grants £223,251). The charity is unincorporated. Principal address then, and still used on aggregator listings: Harcourt House, 341 Regents Park Road, London N3 1DP. Independent examiner: David Passey, Greenford.[6]
Yad Sarah
Yad Sarah (Hebrew: “Memorial to Sarah”) was founded in Jerusalem in 1976 by Uri Lupolianski (1951–2026), later the first Haredi mayor of Jerusalem (2003–2008). It began as a household gemach lending vaporizers and grew into a national volunteer network. It is named for Lupolianski’s grandmother, killed in the Holocaust. The organisation says it operates 120-plus branches and several thousand volunteers, lending wheelchairs, beds, oxygen equipment and other short-term medical kit, and running emergency call lines, accessible transport and day-rehabilitation centres. It received the Israel Prize in 1994 and consultative status with UN ECOSOC in 2005. It states that it takes no ongoing Israeli government grant and is funded by donations, most of them raised inside Israel.[7][8]

Settlement branches
Yad Sarah presents itself as serving “every corner of Israel.” Its published branch list has included lending points in settlements in the occupied West Bank and in occupied East Jerusalem. An August 2017 capture of the organisation’s own branches page named:[2]
Ariel, Betar Illit, Efrat, Givat Ze’ev, Har Homa, Kiryat Arba, Kiryat Sefer (Modi’in Illit), Ma’ale Adumim, Ma’ale Ephraim, Mevo Horon, Modi’in, Neve Yaakov, Pisgat Ze’ev, Psagot, Halamish (Neve Tzuf), Ramot and Ramat Shlomo.
Those sites sit beyond the 1949 Armistice Line. Israeli civilian settlements in occupied territory are illegal under international humanitarian law (Fourth Geneva Convention, art. 49(6); UN Security Council resolution 2334). UK grants to Yad Sarah therefore support an organisation whose service map includes the settlement infrastructure, even where individual grants are not earmarked branch by branch. Yad Sarah’s own social channels have separately announced a centre in Ma’ale Adumim.[2]
The UK register does not itemise which Yad Sarah branches receive Friends of Yad Sarah money.

No trustee remuneration is recorded. The 2020 report said none of the trustees had a beneficial interest in the charity.[6]

Almost all expenditure is grants onward to Yad Sarah plus a thin cost of generating funds. There is no trading subsidiary and no staff pay band above £60,000 on the register card.[1]
