Jonathan Morris Lewis studied Economics at Manchester University, and went on to become a lawyer. He is currently an independent real estate consultant and previously was a partner in the international law firm CMS, which is also well known for its involvement in the film industry. Jonathan has four children and a home in Israel which he visits frequently. His previous communal roles have included being a Trustee of UJS Hillel and a governor of Immanuel College. [2]

Lewis has spoken publicly about a formative childhood visit to Israel in 1967, shortly after the Six-Day War. In a 2018 reflection marking Israel’s 70th anniversary on the Israel Bonds International website, Lewis wrote:

“I first visited Israel in 1967 with my family, shortly after the Six-Day War. That trip left an indelible impression on me — the sense of a small nation surrounded by enemies yet determined to survive and thrive. It was a moment that shaped my lifelong connection with the Jewish homeland.”[3]

Lewis described witnessing Jordanian soldiers standing guard at the division of Jerusalem during the trip, which heightened his awareness of the need to protect Israel's borders and people. This experience, as he noted in the same article, "acutely recognized the dire need to protect and defend Israel’s borders and people."[4] Lewis pursued a gap year at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem after visiting Israel with his family in 1967 during the Six-Day War, an experience that fostered a lifelong connection to the country. He became an activist and advocate for Israel on UK university campuses in the 1970s.

Career

According to his official profile on the Israel Bonds International website: "The London-based real estate lawyer who is a partner at CMS..." (in older versions) and in a more recent update: "Jonathan is a real estate consultant in London UK, after retiring as a partner at international law firm CMS."[5][6][7]

This confirms his professional background in real estate law, including his long tenure as a partner at the international law firm CMS (formerly CMS Cameron McKenna), specializing in commercial property development and investment.[8] Lewis has pursued a career in business and management, though specific details of his professional roles are less publicly documented than his community and philanthropic work. He is recognised as a successful businessman with experience in strategic leadership, organisational development and private-sector management. His professional path has likely included consulting, advisory or executive positions in the UK and possibly internationally, focusing on business growth, efficiency and ethical leadership.

Zionist

Lewis has been a prominent and consistent supporter of Israel for more than five decades. His emotional bond with the country began with a family trip in 1967, which he has described as a defining moment. In his 2018 reflection marking Israel’s 70th anniversary on the Israel Bonds International website, he wrote: “From that first visit in 1967, I saw a small nation surrounded by enemies yet determined to survive and thrive. Seventy years on, Israel stands as a beacon of innovation, democracy and resilience — a miracle worth celebrating and defending.”[9] He is closely associated with Israel Bonds International, an organisation that promotes investment in the Israeli economy. Lewis has participated in fundraising events, spoken at gatherings, and supported campaigns that highlight Israel’s economic and innovative strengths.[10] Lewis has supported UK-based pro-Israel organisations, including the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC) and the Community Security Trust (CST), contributing to efforts against antisemitism and in support of Jewish education and community security.

He has spoken at events including the UK-Israel Business Awards and supported educational initiatives that foster greater understanding of Israel among young people in Britain. Lewis owns property in Israel, with a home in the coastal city of Herzliya, and has many relatives and friends there. In his 2018 reflection on the Israel Bonds International website, he wrote: “Although there are still many challenges, I love sitting in a café in Tel Aviv and watching the melting pot of people that Israel has become.”[11] He described Herzliya as a base for frequent visits, highlighting Israel's transformation into a "melting pot" society that has absorbed millions of Jews from around the world.
