Jo Cox has been the Labour Party MP for Batley and Spen since May 2015. [1] She replaced Mike Wood the previous Labour MP who served this constituency from 1997 until he retired in 2015. [2]

Cox retained this Labour safe seat with a majority of 6,057 in the 2015 general election. [1]

Background

Cox started her career as a political adviser to Joan Walley MP and then Glenys Kinnock MEP, before pursuing a career in the charitable sector working for Oxfam, Save the Children and the NSPCC. [3]
