Richard Allan, Baron Allan of Hallam, is a Liberal Democrats member of the House of Lords having joined in 2010 and was the member of parliament for Sheffield Hallam from 1997 to 2005.

Biographical Information
History
In the 1997 general election he was elected with 51.3 percent of the vote and he won 55.4 percent in 2001, before stepping down and leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg took over the constituency.[1] Whilst in parliament Allan was the Shadow Spokesperson for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills from 1997 to 2005.[2]
After leaving government, Allan was European Government Affairs Director at software company Cisco from September 2005.[3]
In April 2008 the UK Cabinet Office appointed him as Chair of the Power of Information Task Force to work on improving the use of government data.[3]
Current activities
During a 2013 debate on internet speech, Allan announced he works for Facebook. "One measure under discussion would have required companies such as Facebook to post notices alongside alleged defamation or risk legal consequences. Lord Allan argued against it, and it was withdrawn."[4] His role at Facebook includes the provision of advice on public affairs based on previous expertise rather than on my membership of the House of Lords.[2]
