Becky Purvis
Becky Purvis is a former employee of the Science Media Centre. She is now Head of Policy at the Association of Medical Research Charities.[1]
Background
Education
Purvis has a degree in Biology and Philosophy from Durham University. She went on to study for an M.Sc in Science Communication at Imperial College London, involving a placement in the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology and a dissertation on the role of communication in the Human Genome Project.[2]
Career
Science Media Centre
Purvis joined the Science Media Centre as an Assistant in October 2003.[2]
Parliamentary researcher for Evan Harris, former MP
In 2005 Purvis joined the office of former Liberal Democrat MP and Science spokesperson Evan Harris to work on science policy where 'her role included coordinating work during the passage of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 through parliament'.[3] She was involved in organising "Scientists, doctors (bring white coats please!) and patients "Show of Support" at 1pm-2pm including media photocall outside Parliament" protest on the 12 May 2008 during the second reading of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill in the House of Commons.[4]
Association of Medical Research Charities
Purvis joined joined the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) in 2008 and has been Head of Policy since April 2011. She is responsible for policy work, public affairs, media and membership.[1]

Purvis manages the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Medical Research.[1]
Stempra
Purvis is a committee member and secretary of Stempra.[5]
Understanding Animal Research
Purvis is a member of the Understanding Animal Research working group of the Concordat on Openness on Animal Research subgroup.[6]
Rare Disease UK
Purvis sits on the management committee of Rare Disease UK.[3]
