David Clive Levitus (born August 1968, Eastwood and Mearns)[1] is a Glasgow based company director in property lending and development finance, a member of the Glasgow Levitus family, and a participant in Jewish National Fund (JNF) fundraising in Scotland. In 2008 the Jewish Chronicle pictured him at the annual Pro-Am golf tournament of JNF KKL Scotland, which raised £30,000 for the Gazit Reservoir in the Galilee.[2] Companies House lists him as an officer of 34 companies, most of them at 65 Bath Street, First Floor Right, Glasgow, G2 2BX.[3] He is a trustee of the M Charitable Trust.[4]

Jewish National Fund

The Jewish Chronicle reported in July 2008 that the annual KKL Scotland Pro-Am golf tournament, held at Bonnyton Golf Club, Glasgow, and attended by more than 200 people, had raised £30,000 for the construction of the Gazit Reservoir in the Galilee, a project supported by KKL Scotland. Its photographs included one captioned "David Levitus, Bernard Solomons, Ed Faber and professional golfer Fraser Mann".[2] The Scottish Charity Register describes the objects of The KKL (Scotland) Charitable Trust as the relief of poverty, the advancement of education and the advancement of environmental protection or improvement, "all to be based in the State of Israel and where appropriate by supporting relevant charitable projects of Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (KKL Israel)".[5]

Business

A 2015 report in Scottish Financial News described Levitus as a director of Development Finance Ltd, a "Glasgow-based development lender", and quoted him on its launch of a Permitted Development Loans product for the conversion of disused farm buildings into housing.[6] The company's website listed him in February 2024 as Finance Director, at 65 Bath Street, Glasgow, G2 2BX.[7] Companies House records him as a director of Development Finance Ltd. (SC363204) from 27 April 2010, and as a person with significant control holding more than 25% but not more than 50% of its shares, as does Susan Adele Levitus (born March 1968).[3][8]

Harry Smith, Limited

His longest current appointment is as a director of Harry Smith, Limited (SC008622; earlier recorded as Henry Smith, Limited), from 8 April 1998. The company was incorporated on 15 April 1913, is classified under credit granting by non-deposit taking finance houses and the letting of own real estate, and has its registered office at 65 C/O Cherrytree Group, 65 Bath Street, First Floor Right, Glasgow, G2 2BX.[9] He is its only registered person with significant control, holding more than 25% but not more than 50% of the shares and voting rights, with the right to appoint or remove directors.[10] Companies House does not list any previous company names for SC008622. It is the same company that the London weekly Truth reported in April 1920 as Henry Smith, Limited, 173 Vincent Street, Glasgow, run by Harry Levitus of Pollokshields and Emanuel Levitus of Edinburgh as a moneylending business.[11][9]

On the day of his appointment, 8 April 1998, Companies House records the resignations as directors of Maurice Levitus (born July 1910; 60 Milverton Road, Giffnock, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, G46 7LQ), Raymond Saul Levitus (born April 1939; 5 Dalserf Crescent, Giffnock, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, G46 6RB), who also resigned as secretary, and Sylvia Deborah Levitus (born April 1944), who was appointed secretary the same day. The current officers also include Harry Peter Levitus (secretary from 15 December 2014), Susan Levitus (secretary from 8 February 2015 and director from 1 December 2023) and Joanne Levitus (born February 1970; director from 1 December 2023).[9]

Clackmannanshire Licensing Board objection, 2021

The minutes of the Clackmannanshire Licensing Board meeting held by video conference on 13 July 2021 list "Mr David Levitus, Bridging Loans Limited, Objector" among those attending the hearing of an application by Coalsnaughton Burns Club, 2 Main Street, Coalsnaughton, FK13 6JP, for a variation (non-minor) of its premises licence under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005. After hearing representations from the parties, the Board "REFUSED the application for Variation of Licence (Non Minor) on the grounds that it is contrary to the licensing objective of 'preventing public nuisance'". The minutes do not record the grounds of his objection.[12] At that time Bridging Loans Ltd was the name of Bridging Loans Realisations Ltd (SC058511), which used the name from 22 August 2007 until 25 March 2025 and of which Companies House lists him as a director from 7 May 2009.[13][3]

Companies House appointments

Companies House records the following appointments under four officer identities for David Clive Levitus (born August 1968).[3][14][15][16] Among them, Cherrytree Group Management Ltd (formerly Cherrytree Finance Ltd.) lists him as holding 75% or more of its shares,[17] and the officers of Residential Loans Ltd. (03612626) include Susan Adele Levitus, Abigail Charley Levitus, Harry Peter Levitus and Sarah Ainsley Levitus.[18] Raymond Saul Levitus and Sylvia Deborah Levitus, of 60 Milverton Road, Giffnock, Glasgow, G46 7LQ, were his fellow directors of Cheviot Finance Co. Limited (00950944), from which Maurice Levitus resigned as a director on 1 September 2002.[19]

Charities

The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator lists David Levitus, Susan Levitus and Laura Cummings as the trustees of the M Charitable Trust (SC036416), registered from 6 April 2005 at 65 Bath Street, First Floor Right, Glasgow, G2 2BX.[4] The trust's accounts for the year ended 31 March 2026 record a sum of £509,450 "advanced to Wide Choice Limited, a company in which one of the Trustees is a director and shareholder".[20] Companies House lists David Levitus as a director of Wide Choice Limited from 10 December 2022.[3]

Communal roles

The Glasgow Jewish Representative Council directory lists David Levitus as Honorary Treasurer of the Glasgow Hebrew Burial Society, alongside Alan Caplan as Chairman and Barbara Caplan and Ephraim Borowski as Honorary Secretaries.[21] The Glasgow Hebrew Burial Society Charitable Fund Association is the society's charitable fund.

Family

In 1993 Levitus married Susan Adele Cummings (born March 1968).[22] Companies House records her as Susan Adele Cummings on her appointments as secretary and director of Bridging Loans Direct Ltd (SC109908) from 17 March 1988, at 18 Greenhill Avenue, Giffnock, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, G46 6QX,[23] and as Susan Adele Levitus on later records, including her directorship of Residential Loans Ltd. (03612626) from 15 November 2004 and her entry as a person with significant control of Development Finance Ltd. (SC363204), notified on 6 April 2016.[18][8] A filing of 30 July 2018 for Development Finance Ltd. records a change of details on 5 December 2017 for "Susan Adele Cummings" as a person with significant control.[24] Levitus is presumably her married name. They have three children: Sarah Ainsley Levitus (born 1994), Harry Peter Levitus (born 1996) and Abigail Charley Levitus (born 1998).[25]

Levitus is a member of the Glasgow Levitus family. Other members include Emanuel Levitus, a co-founder of the Giffnock synagogue, whose history records that its foundation stone at May Terrace was laid by E. Levitus on 14 August 1938;[26] Maurice Levitus (born 1910), Raymond Saul Levitus, Sylvia Deborah Levitus and Joanne Levitus, who have been officers of Harry Smith, Limited;[9] and David Levitus (born 1882), who emigrated from Scotland and lived in Cape Town and later Sydney. ScotlandsPeople valuation rolls record Solomon, Emanuel and Harry Levitus as proprietors of shops and warehouses in Glasgow in the 1930s and 1940s.[27]
