Social Justice Scotland (SJS), defunct as at 5 February 2010, was a Conservative linked think tank. It called itself

a progressive think tank founded to develop and promote fresh thinking and effective new approaches to tackling poverty and inequality in Scotland.[1]

It also stated that it was

an independent, non-partisan organisation inspired by Iain Duncan Smith's work on social justice issues.[2]

Company background

SJS began when a private limited company called the Centre for Social Justice Scotland Limited was incorporated on 2 July 2009 with one director, Glasgow based Heather MacLeod.[3] The name was changed to Social Justice Scotland on 13 August 2009.[4] On 31 August 2009 the company appointed a company secretary, the Gloucestershire-based finance director Anthony Nares.[5]

SJS began operation in August 2009.[6] Between August 2009 and January 2010 a number of directors were appointed and then had their appointments terminated. Fiona Houston (appointed 31 August 2009[7], terminated, 15 December 2009[8]); Malcolm Offord, (appointed 31 August 2009, terminated, 13 December 2009); Malcolm Scott, (appointed 31 August 2009, terminated 4 January 2010)

SJS came to an end on 22 January 2010 when its name was changed to Rellandum Limited in a form signed by Anthony Nares, the company secretary, one of two remaining directors.[9]

As at 5 February 2010, Social Justice Scotland no longer exists as a working entity (the website has been closed down for maintenance, and the domain name is parked). The outfit has been rebranded as the Social Justice Foundation.

Conservative links

Most of those associated with the think tank are or have been prospective candidates or other activists for the Conservative Party.
