Ben-Gurion University Foundation
Ben-Gurion University Foundation is a non-profit organisation headquartered in London, affiliated with the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in South Israel.
The university
Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is a university in Be’er Sheva, South Israel. It’s named after David Ben-Gurion, the first Prime Minister of Israel, who believed the that the future of the country lay in this region. Set up in 1969 by the Government of Israel, the university has approximately 20,000 students in five faculties and is comprised of six institutes: Ben-Gurion Research Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism, Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research, Heksherim – Research Institute for Jewish and Israeli Literature and Culture, Ilse Katz Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology, The Homeland Security Research Institute, The National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev and Kreitman School of Advance Graduate Studies.[1][2]
The Foundation
According to the Foundation’s website it was founded in 1974, five years after the university was formed, its aim is to ‘raise funds and awareness for the University across the UK’.[3] It’s business accounts show the firm was registered as a charity in July 1978, with a registration number of 276203.[4]
Staff
- Harold Paisner, director since April 1997 and president since 2011.[5] Also sits on the international advisory board of The Centre for the Study of European Politics and Society, a division within the University,[6] a senior partner in corporate finance at law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner and is involved in many Jewish related charities.
- Eric Charles, director since November 1992 and secretary since June 2013.[7] Director at a number of companies and charities, including Devonshire Street Charitable Foundation – where Martin Paisner is also a director.[8]
- Martin Paisner, director since November 1992.[9] Is a partner at law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner, one of the two trustees of Tony and Cherie Blair’s controversial blind trust and like his brother, Harold, sits on the board of many Jewish related charities.

- Sidney Corob, director from November 1992 to February 2003. A Jewish philanthropist.[11]
- Miriam Hyams, director from November 1992 to May 1999.
- Norman Hyams, director from November 1992 to May 1999.
- Hyman Kreitman, director from November 1992 to May 2001. Former chairman of Tesco.[12]
- Dr Spencer Lawson, director from November 1992 to February 2003.[9]
