Itis Holdings produces road pricing technology and has contracts with Transport for London and 'several local authorities'[1]. It is described as a 'vehicle tracking and traffic data business'[2]. Itis is also described as 'an AIM-listed provider of traffic information with a subsidiary in Israel'[3].

In 2007 the company is reported to have a market value of almost £60m and to be 'focused on traffic data collection'[4]. It's annual sales for 2007 were £18.8m with reported profits of £3.9m[5].

Projects

In 2006, Itis reports the trial of its latest innovation, CFVD (Cellular Floating Vehicle Data[6]), with 'a leading mobile operator'. It is stated that 'CFVD measures and forecasts real-time traffic flow by sampling the positions of mobile phones'[7]. This unnamed operator is reported as funding:

'a project using our CFVD technology to demonstrate how anonymous signalling data from its network can generate high quality information on road traffic and general mobility within a large metropolitan area in Europe. The results of this study will be presented to both public and private sector organisations and may lead to other deployments in countries where this operator has a strong presence'[8].

It appears that this innovation is also known as 'Networks' which was reported in 2005 as a service which was developed in Israel and being deployed in Europe and the United States. Through the use of satelites, ITIS is able to track vehicles, stating that it 'provides traffic flow information to help drivers avoid congested routes' along with the operation of a 'stolen vehicle tracking service'[9]. So the service can be useful for tracking a stolen car and avoiding congestion, but it seems clear that the technology could also be used to track individuals for a number of alternative reasons. It would be interesting to see in what other ways this technology is likely to be deployed in the near of distant future (or even in the present).

The precurser to this appears to be their Estimotion technology which sampled the position of mobile phones in moving vehicles and distributed it to the automotive sector and to local and central Government[10]

In 2005, car manufacturers who are reported to have signed up for the 'vehicle tracking' service includes Bentley, Ferrari, Land Rover and Maserati[11].

Subsidiaries

Itis is the owner of 'satellite tracking company' NavTrak[12].

People

  • Trevor Chinn - Chairman[13]. Chinn is reported to have 'forked out £475,245 on a million shares in two deals to take his holding to 1.73m or 1.76%' of Itis in 2005[14] [15]
  • Gary Gates - International Business Director[16]
  • Stephen Ladyman (Former transport minister) joined Itis in 2008. The Sunday Times reports that Ladyman 'would not lobby the government for a year after he stood down as a minister', but goes on to state that he 'is able to assist Itis in seeking contracts in the EU'[17]
  • Stuart Marks listed as Chief Executive of ITIS Holdings plc in 2005 (0161 929 5788)
