Admiral Sir Jonathan Band is a former professional head of the British Royal Navy.
He was the First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff from 2006 to 2009. As First Sea Lord he had command over all naval personnel and vessels, including nuclear-armed submarines. The role includes advising the British defence secretary on maritime strategy and policy.
Revolving door
Since retiring from public service Band has taken up several defence industry roles.
He currently acts as a defence adviser to Babcock, and as a non-executive board member of arms manufacturer Lockheed Martin and Survitec.
