Dr David Mathieson is a former unpaid special adviser to the Labour Party[1] now living in Madrid where he works as a journalist.
Background
Mathieson has a PhD in Modern History and Economics from the University of London. He is also a qualified solicitor and practiced commercial and international law in Brussels and London.[2]
From 1997 to 2002, Mathieson was a special adviser to Robin Cook, the former Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1997 to 2001) and Leader of the House of Commons (2001 to 2003).[3]
Mathieson now lives in Madrid, where he is an associate of the Madrid-based foreign affairs thinktank Fundación para las Relaciones Internacionales y el Diálogo Exterior (FRIDE).[4] FRIDE "aims to provide the best and most innovative thinking on Europe’s role in the international arena".[5] He is also a journalist who has published articles for Expansión, El País, El Correo, La Razón, the magazine Temas para el Debate, The Guardian, Tribune, the New Statesman and think tank the Foreign Policy Centre.[6]
