Jim Ownbey graduated from Cleveland High school and Western Kentucky University and from 1985 to 1988 served as an officer in the US Army. He then worked as a manager at Maytag in Cleveland. [1] In December 2000 Ownbey set up the website www.bushcountry.org dedicated to 'Promoting the Ideals of Conservatism'. [2] The anti-terrorist activist and fellow computer programmer Aaron Weisburd thanked Ownbey's www.bushcountry.org for encouraging him to set up his website Internet Haganah. [3]
