Norwegian energy giant Statoil rebranded itself as 'Equinor' in February 2018, in what was widely described as an exercise in greenwashing.
It has shale gas investments in the US and has been intent on exploration in the pristine Great Australian Bight for some years.

In April 2013 Statoil had an 'introductory meeting' with new Permanent Secretary Stephen Lovegrove at the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
