- As trailed in my blog of 22 July, I have re-joined Her Majesty’s Government, in a somewhat more senior and empowered role than before, and needless to say I am very excited about it all. Things have taken a little while to settle down (and apparently this is par for the course in a change of government), but I am now properly ensconced in the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government’s ministerial office as specialist regeneration adviser. Greg intends to make a real difference, and it will be a huge honour to support him with all the agendas that I care so passionately about.
- ...And secondly, I’ve been labouring with CLG civil servants (as I was formerly in the Cabinet Office) on all the due diligence for me joining Greg Clark’s ministerial office. I have to say the senior CLG civil servants are a revelation: a delight to work with and a total credit to public service. But they are a bit nonplussed and/or diverted by how many retired civil servants of their acquaintance that there are working away (on no salaries, all for love) in the UKR team. And, needless to say, my experience of having dealt with that department, and its many forebears, as a stakeholder over two decades, is proving to be invaluable. [2]
