Tony Cooper is a former board member of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and a former chairman of the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA).

Background

Described as a 'former senior trades union official with nuclear industry connections', he was appointed to the NIA in July 2002. [1] For over ten years Cooper was both Joint General Secretary of Prospect and Chairman of the Electricity Supply Trades Union Council. He was also Chairman of the Trade Unions for Safe Nuclear Energy.

Cooper was also a member of the Department of Trade and Industry's Energy Advisory Panel, a ministerial appointment for which he received remuneration of £1,000 a year. [2] [3]

He is the father of former Labour minister Yvette Cooper (now Shadow Home Secretary) and the father-in-law of Shadow Chancellor and Labour MP Ed Balls.

He completed his final term of office on the NDA board on 31 December 2011. [4]
