Charity Commission inquiries

2014 double-defaulter class inquiry

A class inquiry report published 4 August 2014 found that the charity (then styled Beis Aharon Trust Limited) had failed to file accounts and returns for the years ending 31 March 2012 and 31 March 2013. The Commission held that this was “mismanagement and misconduct in the administration of the Charity and a breach of their legal duties.” After the inquiry the missing accounts were filed, bringing more than £1.7 million of income onto the public register (a further £2.268 million had been filed just before the inquiry).Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; name cannot be a simple integer. 2025 cashed-cheques class inquiry

On 14 May 2025 the Commission opened a statutory class inquiry after an HMRC visit to a company in Hackney found that 105 charities had cashed cheques there to a value of £22 million between December 2021 and March 2023. Beis Aharon Charitable Trust Limited (1010420) was one of the first ten charities named. The inquiry is examining how funds were transferred, trustee oversight of cash obtained against cheques, and whether the transactions were in the charities’ best interests. An order temporarily stopped the charities under inquiry from issuing cheques without Commission consent. The inquiry remains open; the register carries a regulatory alert.[7][2]
