Yoav Turgeman is an Israeli defence industry executive and retired Israeli Navy colonel. In December 2023 the board of RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems, the state-owned weapons maker behind Iron Dome, chose him as chief executive. He had been CEO of Elta Systems, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries.[1]

Career

Defense News reported that Turgeman retired from the navy as a colonel, having headed its combat systems department, and joined Israel Aerospace Industries in 2006. At IAI he headed the Arrow air defence programme and the company's anti-aircraft plant. In 2018 he became CEO of its subsidiary Elta Systems, which makes radars for the Rafael-made Iron Dome and David's Sling air defence systems and for the Trophy active protection system.[1]

The Rafael board chose him over three serving Rafael vice-presidents, to replace retired General Yoav Har-Even, who had been CEO for eight years. The appointment needed final approval from the defence and regional cooperation ministers and a government appointments committee. Defense News reported that Rafael made $3.4 billion in defence revenue in 2022, and that about 1,700 of its employees had been called up as reservists during the Israel–Hamas war.[1]

Turgeman's background is in the navy and the defence industry, not Unit 8200.
