Windward is an Israeli maritime analytics company that sells AI-based vessel tracking and risk analysis to government and commercial customers. It was founded in 2010 by Ami Daniel and Matan Peled, who met as Israeli Navy officers.[1] Investors have included former IDF chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi and former CIA director David Petraeus.[2] The company was listed in London until FTV Capital completed a take-private acquisition on 18 March 2025.[3]

Founders and military links

In a 2014 interview, Ami Daniel said his interest in the sea "was cultivated during seven years as an officer in the Israeli Navy, where I met Windward’s co-founder, Matan Peled, who was the commander of a patrol ship".[1] Neither source opened names an intelligence unit for either founder.

Globes reported in September 2015 that Windward had recruited David Petraeus and Dan Senor as investors. It added that the company had earlier recruited "another investor former IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi, who is a consultant for the company".[2]

Ownership

Windward announced on 18 March 2025 that its acquisition by FTV Capital had closed and that "Windward shares will no longer trade on the London Stock Exchange".[3]
