How UK companies with links to Israel were identified and scored

This page explains how the list of UK companies with address or ownership links to Israel was compiled, and how each company's connection strength score is worked out.

Sources

The list draws on three public Companies House datasets:

• bulk company data, giving registered addresses and SIC codes
• people with significant control (PSC) data, covering both corporate and individual controllers
• officer appointments, both current and former, for each company already on the list

Only live companies and current PSC entries are included.

Selection criteria

A company is included if its records show at least one of the following:

1. a registered office address in Israel
2. a corporate PSC registered in Israel, or giving an Israeli address
3. an individual PSC with a service address in Israel
4. a current or former officer with a service address in Israel

Selection is by address and corporate ownership only. Nationality was not used or recorded.

Connection strength

Each company gets a points score that adds up the types of link found in its records:

Registered address in Israel	4
Israeli corporate PSC	3
Current officer or individual PSC with an Israeli service address	2
Former officer with an Israeli service address (when that is the only link)	1

A higher score means more formal ties appear in the records. The score does not measure a company's conduct, size or significance, and it implies nothing controversial. Those questions are covered in the individual company profiles.

Limitations

• Companies House cannot be searched by officer address, so officers were checked only for companies already found through addresses or PSCs. A company linked only through an officer will be missing.
• Addresses were matched on "Israel" and a list of Israeli place names, so unusual spellings may be missed and a few false matches are possible.
• Some corporate PSCs registered outside Israel give an Israeli address. Each entry's detail shows what matched.
• PSC and officer addresses may be out of date.
• Companies owned through a non-Israeli intermediate company, or with no PSC on file, are not caught.
• For companies with more than 100 officers, only the first 100 were checked.
