The Jewish News Limited (03302610) publishes the weekly Jewish News and jewishnews.co.uk. It was incorporated on 15 January 1997 as London Jewish News Limited and took its present name on 21 October 2004. The registered office is New Burlington House, 1075 Finchley Road, London NW11 0PU, the same address as its owner, The Jacob Foundation. Nature of business: publishing of newspapers (SIC 58130). Status: active.[1][2]
The paper
The paper dates its founding to 1997. The first director was Gary Louis Stern (appointed 15 January 1997, resigned 4 May 2001). Michael Jeffrey Sinclair was a director from 25 April 2000 to 28 November 2000. The site describes a free weekly, “twice crowned free newspaper of the year,” with a digital list it puts at more than 300,000. Editor Richard Ferrer and news editor Justin Cohen are directors and are described by the paper as co-publishers.[3][2]
In February 2020 the paper and The Jewish Chronicle announced a merger, subject to finance. In April 2020 both were put into a liquidation process ahead of a combined rescue. A consortium led by Robbie Gibb bought the Chronicle from its liquidators. Jewish News then said it had funds to continue alone.[4][2]
Ownership
Until 11 November 2020 the person with significant control was Jn News and Media Group, notified 6 April 2016, 75 per cent or more of the shares and votes, correspondence address 5 Wigmore Street, London W1U 1PB. That is a Noé Group address. Noe Group (Corporate Services) Limited ceased as a director the same day.[5][6]
On 11 November 2020 David Joseph Bloom, Alex Brummer, Justin Cohen, Richard Ferrer and Adam Richard Cannon were appointed directors. Bloom, a Goldacre Ventures and Noé partner, resigned on 30 September 2021. Cannon resigned on 17 November 2025.[3][7]
The Jacob Foundation (company 01864076; charity 290759) was notified as person with significant control on 24 November 2020: 75 per cent or more of the shares and of the voting rights. Its own trustees’ report says it owns the entire issued share capital and that the paper “inherited this structure in 2020.” The foundation was established in October 1984. A correspondence address used on the company PSC form is Bunkers Dip, Neville Drive, London N2 0QR. The operating address on the charity accounts is New Burlington House. The paper’s site says the foundation’s objects are cohesion inside the Jewish community, cohesion with other communities, and support for Jewish charities, and that the foundation has lent money to keep the paper going.[5][8][2]
In February 2025 the paper reported that the foundation had appointed Mike Freer, John Mann and Graham Goodkind as trustees, and named Robert Peston as its first “ambassador.”[9]
