Second Henry Joseph Levitt Scholarship is a Scottish charity, number SC005287, constituted as a trust and on the Scottish Charity Register from 12 May 1955. The register gives its address, a trustee address, as 4 Clarendon Crescent, Edinburgh EH4 1BT; the trust's 2025 accounts give the postcode as EH4 1PT. Its main objective is "to award a travelling scholarship annually to boys or girls of the Jewish Religion resident in Edinburgh" aged from 14 to 18 who have attended the Edinburgh Hebrew Congregation religious classes, to enable them to travel to Israel "in association with a Jewish Education Scheme".[1][2]
History
According to the 2025 accounts, the trust is constituted by an agreement and deed of trust among Henry Joseph Levitt, Reuben Robert Cohen and others dated 8 October 1954 and registered in the Books of Council and Session on 11 November 1954, and by a supplementary deed among the same dated 1 September 1958 and registered on 13 September 1958.[2]
Activities
The 2025 accounts say that no grants were made in the year or in the previous year, because no nominations were received from the Education Committee of the Edinburgh Hebrew Congregation, "owing to the very few students of the qualifying age in the community". The chair of that committee has indicated that a nomination is intended for 2027. At 8 October 2025 the trust held cash of £4,406 (2024: £5,378) and investments of £94,483 (2024: £83,847), managed by Charles Stanley & Co Ltd, 2 Multrees Walk, Edinburgh EH1 3DQ.[2]
