- 1974 - Mr Samuel Wolfson, like his brothers, Sir Isaac and the late Charles Wolfson, a generous benefactor of a host of Jewish and non Jewish good causes, bas died at the age of 79. At his request, his body was flown to Israel for burial. It rested overnight at the Beer Yaacov Rabbinical College to which funeral procession on Friday, at the Har Hamenuchat Cemetery, stopped at a number of yeshivot and synagogues and at the Ezrat Nashim Hospital with which Mr. Wolfson had been associated. The many mourners included members of the family, heads of yeshivot and Members of the Knesset. Mr Wolfeon had lived In Britain most of his life. He. was brought to Glasgow as an Infant from Russia and later moved to London. The Gateshead Yeshiva, Glasgow's Giffnock and Newlands Hebrew Congregation and Carmel college were among the object of his munificences. In the First World War he was wounded in France. He subsequently volunteered to fight in the Jewish Legion where he saw service as a sergeant under Colonel Patterson and Genera Allenby He is survived by his wife, a son (Rabbi Aviezer Wolfson) and two daughters.[1]
