SGBL (Société Générale de Banque au Liban) is a Lebanese bank chaired by Antoun Sehnaoui.[1] According to the bank, it was founded in 1953 as Banque Belgo-Libanaise, a partnership between Michel Sehnaoui & Sons and two Belgian banks. The French bank Société Générale took a 25% stake in 1969 and 50% in 1991. The bank took its present name in 2001, and in 2006 the Sehnaoui Group raised its holding from 50% to 81%.[2]
Management
The board appointed Antoun Sehnaoui chairman and CEO in 2007. In 2011 SGBL took over certain assets and liabilities of the Lebanese Canadian Bank.[2] The board lists Antoun Sehnaoui as chairman and Nabil Sehnaoui as a member.[1]
Controversy
In July 2026 The National reported that Sehnaoui faced money-laundering charges linked to currency trading at SGBL during the 2019 financial crisis, as well as a wanted notice over his dinner with Benjamin Netanyahu.[3]
