Lynxight is an Israeli company, founded in 2019, whose AI software connects to standard security cameras at swimming pools to detect swimmers in danger and alert lifeguards. It also sells risk data to pool operators and insurers.[1] Its co-founder and CEO, Omer Bar-Ilan, is described by the Israeli news site Mako as a Unit 8200 veteran who worked on the Iron Dome project at Rafael.[2]

Founders and military and defence links

Mako reported in July 2023 that a near-drowning involving Omer Bar-Ilan, "יוצא 8200" ("a veteran of 8200", Unit 8200), an electrical engineer with bachelor's and master's degrees from the Technion "שעבד בפרויקט כיפת ברזל ברפאל" ("who worked on the Iron Dome project at Rafael"; Iron Dome; RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems), led him to set up Lynxight. According to the report, Bar-Ilan reasoned that AI risk analysis and computer vision were already used in fields such as the Iron Dome system and could be applied to swimming pools.[2] The company's co-founder and chief commercial officer is Eyal Amit;[1] no published source found describes his military service.

Funding and customers

In January 2023 the company announced a $6 million round co-led by Champel Capital and Boresight, joined by Aristagora VC, Brooks Capital, Open Valley, Gil Midyan and others. The announcement said Lynxight served commercial pool operators in ten countries across the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia, and had partnerships with insurance companies.[1]
