Laminar was a cloud data security company founded in Tel Aviv by Amit Shaked and Oran Avraham, both veterans of Unit 8200. It sold data security posture management (DSPM) software, which finds and protects sensitive data stored across public cloud platforms. Ctech reported that Rubrik bought it in August 2023 for $105 million.[1]
Founders
TechCrunch reported when the company came out of stealth in November 2021 that "Co-founders Amit Shaked (CEO) and Oran Avraham (CTO) are both veterans of Unit 8200, the famous Israeli military intelligence service that has been the breeding ground for so many other entrepreneurs".[2] Ctech gives the company's founding date as August 2020.[1]
Acquisition by Rubrik
TechCrunch reported in August 2023 that Rubrik was buying Laminar's "workers, tech and customer contracts" and would use the team as the basis of a new cyber-security research and development centre in Israel. Its sources put the price at between "north" of $100 million and $250 million.[3] Ctech later gave the price as $105 million, "$91 million in cash and the remainder in shares". It reported that Shaked leads Rubrik's Israeli operations.[1]
