Keser Girls School
Keser Girls School is an independent Orthodox Jewish primary school for girls aged 5 to 11 on Ely Street, Gateshead. The Department for Education records that it opened on 28 June 2019, with 362 pupils on roll against a capacity of 420. It lists Mrs Rivka Springer as headteacher and Gateshead Jewish Primary School as proprietor.[1]
Inspections
In May 2025 Ofsted judged the school good and found that it met the independent school standards. It said the school "provides education for up to 420 girls between the ages of five and eleven years" and that pupils "study Hebrew (Kodesh) studies in the morning and a secular curriculum every afternoon". It named Rabbi Abraham Cohen as chair.[2]
Before that, the school required improvement in December 2019 and November 2022.[3][4] A progress monitoring inspection in February 2024 found that not all the standards checked were met. It reported that the school's statutory action plan "was found not to be acceptable by the DfE". It also reported: "Leaders consider that teaching pupils to develop respect and tolerance for some of the protected characteristics, does not align with the school’s religious ethos."[5] A pre-registration inspection in November 2018 had found the school unlikely to meet the standards.[6]
