Iran Solidarity is an initiative launched at the House of Lords on 13 July 2009 to 'support the Iranian people's struggle for freedom'. Aside from some British and foreign liberal voices, the statement of support is signed by a familiar cast of neocons, some known Islamophobes, and luminaries of the New Atheist movement. Active figures include Maryam Namazie and Fariborz Pooya of the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain, MEK supporter Lord Dick Taverne, New Atheist AC Grayling and gay-rights activist Peter Tatchell.[1]. Its launch at the House of Lords was promoted by Harry's Place, and included such statements from the speakers as: 'Iran treats its Arab citizens worse than Israel treats its Arab population' (Tatchell). While in their promotional material Maryam Namazie and Fariborz Pooya highlight their affiliations with the Worker Communist Party of Iran (a sectarian groupuscule), at the launch event their sponsor Lord Taverne drew parallels between Islam and Marxism which according to him turned into similar threats once they took over a country.[2]

Besides the founding statement the organization appears to comprise of a BM Box address, a website, a blog run by Namazie and a Gmail address.
