The Institute for Renewable Energy Policy is a research wing of the Interdisciplinary Centre Herzliya. Isaac Berzin is the founding director and also an affiliated scientist with MIT.

The Institute has the following mission statement:

Mission Statement: To serve as a catalyst to the Renewable Energy field by providing the stakeholders with critical insights which highlight the technologies that will be at the forefront of the Energy Revolution.The Institute’s methodology is based on an innovative interdisciplinary approach utilizing world-class strategic partnerships.[1].

Why Israel?

Israel has been selected as the base for the research institute for the following reasons:

1. It is becoming increasingly evident that the field of Renewable Energy is interdisciplinary, commanding the comprehensive integration of disciplines in which Israel has a proven record of excellence and innovation: desert agriculture and irrigation, water technologies, solar energy and biotechnology.
2. Israel has a unique entrepreneurial culture, proven repeatedly in a variety of industries.
3. Israel is strategically motivated to release itself from its dependence on oil from the Middle East.[2]
