The Head of Capability for All Source Analysis is a senior functional leadership role within Defence Intelligence (DI) in the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
Role
The post sits within the Analysis and Production directorate of Defence Intelligence, the MOD’s dedicated intelligence arm. It fuses information from all available sources—including secret intelligence (human and signals) and open-source data—to produce assessments supporting military operations and policy.
Hierarchy
The role reports to the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence (DCDI), a senior civilian (2-star equivalent) responsible for all DI analysis and production. The DCDI reports to the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), a 3-star military officer. Following recent reforms, DI operates within the Military Intelligence Services (MIS) under the Cyber & Specialist Operations Command (CSOC).
Responsibilities
It is a functional leadership position rather than a regional desk role. The post oversees professional standards for approximately 1,500–2,000 intelligence analysts (civilian and military, including the Intelligence Corps). Key duties include:
- Ensuring adherence to the Professional Head of Intelligence Analysis (PHIA) Common Analytical Standards for rigorous, objective assessments.
- Managing the Professional Development Framework that defines skills progression from entry-level to expert.
- Maintaining tradecraft and standards across the analytical community.
