EZchip (EZchip Semiconductor Ltd) was an Israeli maker of high-performance processing chips for carrier and data-centre networks, listed on Nasdaq and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. In February 2016 the Israeli company Mellanox Technologies completed its purchase for $811 million ($606 million net of cash).[1] Its chief executive was Eli Fruchter.[2]
Military service: Unit 8200 claim denied
EZchip has sometimes been listed among companies founded by Unit 8200 veterans. However, in a 2016 Globes interview Eli Fruchter said he had not served in the unit. Globes wrote that "contrary to what was written, he was not in 8200", and quoted him: "איזה 8200?! ... סחבתי פצצות בחיל אוויר" ("What 8200?! ... I hauled bombs in the Air Force"; Israeli Air Force). The interview said that after his army service Fruchter studied electrical engineering at the Technion, and in 1990 he founded LanOptics.[2] EZchip remains on the list of firms founded by Unit 8200 or other Israeli military veterans on the basis of Fruchter's Air Force service, not Unit 8200.
