- 1954 - 'THE Glasgow Jewish community celebrated the sixth anniversary of Israel's independence yesterday when more than 1000 people attended a demonstration in the Couper Institute, Cathcart. Before the gathering, Mr Edward Woolfson, president of the Glasgow Zionist Organisation, planted a tree in the grounds of the Queen's Park Synagogue in commemoration.[1]
