The Consulate General of Israel in Miami is a diplomatic mission of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Florida.[1] In 2024 the Digital Forensic Research Lab found that its deputy consul had posted replies on X that matched the scripts of Words of Iron, a tool that supplied volunteers with ready-made pro-Israel replies.[2]
Media affairs
The consulate says its Department of Media Affairs provides "information and official statements on issues related to Israel" to editors, journalists and broadcasters. It distributes press releases, arranges interviews and briefings with the consul general and other diplomats, and coordinates visits by Israeli government officials. It also helps journalists travelling to Israel on assignment.[1]
Words of Iron
The Atlantic Council's DFRLab reported that while many accounts using Words of Iron were suspicious or anonymous, others belonged to real users. It said the account of Israel's deputy consul in Miami, whom it named as Mike Driquez, "published text consistent with WOI messaging in eight replies on October 14 and 15" 2023. It published screenshots of two identical posts.[2]
Other activity
Leaked files of the Consulate General of Israel in Atlanta were published by Distributed Denial of Secrets; they have not been independently verified. They record a July 2020 webinar, "Let's Rise Up Together from the USA to Israel", hosted by the Atlanta Israel Coalition. Its speakers included a deputy consul general from Miami and Joshua Washington of the Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel.[3]
