University of Warwick Teaching About Terrorism is a 2009/10 research project funded by C-SAP, one of the Higher Education Academy's subject networks. Freedom of Information Request 1

  • Does your institution provide any information or advice to students or staff on any potential liability under Terrorism legislation which might result from accessing materials for teaching or research?
No
  • Does your institution have any kind of procedure to review or assess reading lists, module descriptors or other teaching materials which explicitly or in practice considers questions of safety and risk under terrorism legislation as part of its remit?
The institution has a module approval process which requires that departments set out the module aims, learning outcomes and are asked to provide a bibliography for the module, amongst a range of other data. There is not an explicit requirement on the committees considering these proposals that they review them specifically for safety and risk under terrorism legislation, although the committee could, and perhaps should, raise such concerns if they saw fit. The primary purpose of the process is to assure the quality of teaching provision at the institution.
  • Does your institution have any system, policy or procedure in place for dealing with any potential actions taken by the authorities against the institution, its students or staff under Terrorism legislation?
The institution does not have a specific "Terrorism Policy", but Regulation 29 relating to meetings held on University premises is relevant, the link for which is[2].
  • Does your institution have any system, policy or procedure in place for ‘preventing violent extremism’ as recommended for example in the government guidance document ‘Promoting Good Campus Relations’?
The institution does not have a specific "Terrorism Policy", but Regulation 29 relating to meetings held on University premises is relevant, the link for which is[3][4]
