The Special Intelligence Wing was part of the Intelligence Corps and the parent of the FRU.

In 1989, on the night before he arrested Nelson, Stevens found his offices in Belfast had been set on fire. The raid was carried out by the Controlled Methods of Entry Squad, a sister unit of the FRU based with the Special Intelligence Wing at Ashford. At the same time the army moved documents that incriminated Nelson from Belfast to England.[1]
