Smith & Nephew is a global medical technology business. They have leadership positions in Orthopaedic Reconstruction, Advanced Wound Management, Sports Medicine and Trauma. [1]

They are a constituent of the UK's FTSE100 and their shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange. [1]

The firms history dates back over 150 years to the family enterprise of Thomas James Smith who opened a small pharmacy in Hull in 1856. The firm was taken on by his nephew Horatio Nelson Smithin 1896 following the death of his uncle Thomas Smith. [2]
