They are a constituent of the UK's FTSE100 and their shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange. 
The firms history dates back over 150 years to the family enterprise of Thomas James Smith who opened a small pharmacy in Hull in 1856. The firm was taken on by his nephew Horatio Nelson Smithin 1896 following the death of his uncle Thomas Smith.
