Gaither Committee

The Gaither Committee was appointed by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower]] in 1957, shortly after the launch of Sputnik by the Soviet Union. It concluded that the United States was in danger of losing a war against the Soviets, and that massive increases in defence spending, particularly on missile programs, were required.[1]
