Lord Jonathan Hill, a former lobbyist, was the EU's financial services chief from November 2014 to July 2016.
He is a board member of the Centre for Policy Studies.
Hill is the founding director of Quiller Consultants. He was also an adviser to public sector reform think tank, Reform.[1]
Hill was elevated to the House of Lords in May 2010 and was appointed schools minister in the Department for Education by the Conservative-led government the same day.[2]

Lobbying career
Hill has passed through the revolving door between politics and the commercial lobbying industry a number of times.
- 1989–91: Hill was a lobbyist with Lowe Bell Communications.
He then moved to the Number 10 Policy Unit and became Political Secretary to then Prime Minister John Major and Head of the Prime Minister's Political Office.
- 1994-98: Hill was a lobbyist with Bell Pottinger.
- 1998: Hill founded Quiller Consultants with former journalist John Eisenhammer. He remained a shareholder in Quiller's parent group, Huntsworth, until 2014.[3] He currently declares that he has some holdings in a multi-asset fund, over which, he states, he has no control over.[4]
Political career
Hill has held a number of political posts since the 1980s. These include:
- 1980s: special adviser to Kenneth Clarke in Conservative cabinet
- Early 1990s: adviser to then Prime Minister John Major during EU's Maastricht Treaty negotiation
- May 2010: made a Conservative life peer as Baron Hill of Oareford
- May 2010: appointed education minister by David Cameron's government
- January 2013: Hill was appointed leader of the House of Lords and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster
- July 2014: Hill stepped down from the Government
- September 2014: Hill was presented as designated EU Commissioner for the Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union portfolio in the forthcoming Juncker Commission.
