  • 1961 - ENVOY AT UNIVERSITY FRIENDS DINNER
The Israeli Ambassador, Arthur Lourie and Mrs. Lourie and Professor David Daiches were the guests of honour at the annual dinner of the Glasgow Group Friends of the Hebrew University held in the Central Hotel last week. They were welcomed on behalf the community by Mr. Bens Schotz, who presided in the absence owing to illness, of Sir Maurice Bloch, Hon. Vice-President of the group. Mr. Schotz announced that £6,000 had been raised by the diner and stated that the Misses Esterson, of glasgow, had endowed a £3,500 scholarship in the University. The fate of the university lay in the hands of the Jewish people throughout the worls, declared Mr Lourie. Professor Daiches, who recently returned from a lecture tour in Israel, Dr. Samuel Lazarus, and Dr. Sidney S. Naftalin also spoke.'[2]
