Catherine McKinnell is the Labour MP for Newcastle upon Tyne North. She was elected in May 2010 with a majority vote of 3,414.
McKinnell has held a variety of ministerial roles starting in October 2011 when she was appointed shadow minister for children and young families by Ed Miliband. She then became shadow exchequer secretary to the Treasury and a member of the shadow treasury team in May 2012, before she was appointed shadow economic secretary to the Treasury in October 2013, a role that she still fills.
