Jonathan Ashworth
Jonathan Ashworth is the current Labour MP for Leicester South. [1] He was elected in a by-election in May 2011 following the resignation of his predecessor Peter Soulsby who stepped down in order to run for office as Mayor of Leicester. [2]
Ashworth is also currently the shadow minister for the Cabinet Office, an opposition position he has held since October 2013.
Background
Ashworth previously worked as the an opposition whip between 2011 and 2013. [3]
As well as this he has also worked in advisory roles, ranging from deputy political secretary to Gordon Brown to special adviser to Des Browne, Stephen Timms and Paul Boateng. He has also worked as head of party relations for Ed Miliband. [4]
Ashworth began working for the Labour Party as a political research officer in 2001, and was their economics and welfare policy officer between 2002 to 2004. [5]
